Extra, extra, read all about it!

Katherine Shell at Athens's own Flagpole magazine (our wonderful alt-weekly) has written a piece about Avid Bookshop!  She discusses my soon-to-be bookstore as well as Jackson Street Books, a used shop that's been going strong for 25 years.  Read the article here and let me know what you think!

Hi, Janet,

First off, as an almost-librarian (one last sememster!) and book lover I want to applaud your venture and wish you all the good fortune in the world (I didn't say "luck" because it really takes hard work and dedication, not luck).

Here's a link to an independent bookstore near me that's been thriving throughout the downturn:

Woodstock's a pretty artsy town (they have an opera house, which is more about a variety of music events, plays, etc. than opera), in the middle of nowhere, outside Chicago by a good 1.5 or 2 hours. Yet it's an art center in the general NW suburban area.

Again, all best wishes!

Lisa, thank you for the words of encouragement! I've bookmarked the bookstore's website and will look at it sometime in the next few days. I love to hear about indie bookstores that are thriving (and there are MANY in that situation, contrary to popular belief).

I'll let you know how Booksellers School goes!

Terrific article and I also wish you all the best....owning a bookstore has been a longtime dream of mine, so I will watch with anticipation as you make your dream come true.
